Strata360’s
vision is to provide products and services that will help build
a more secure and sustainable future by encouraging a better
understanding and appreciation of the worlds cultural and ecological
diversity.
Strata360’s mission is to
provide the expertise and technology needed to research, design
and produce high quality cartographic and interactive media
products for our public sector, NGO and non-profit partners
worldwide. Strata360 also provides participatory research and
consultation services designed to support our project partners
in meeting the needs associated with community-based land use,
ecological knowledge and cultural heritage mapping and with
capacity building related to co-management, sustainable development
and geo-spatial and multi-media skills and technology transfer.
Strata360
was established in February
1998
Since that time
we have been actively engaged
in the development of a
number of projects in different
parts of the world. As a professional group
that has accumulated considerable
experience in working with
indigenous organizations,
we are aware of the need
to integrate established community development techniques
for collecting and applying information with new technologies
for assembling, presenting and delivering this information
to targeted end-users. We are confident that the development
of materials for Web and CD-Rom based multimedia applications,
offers the potential for a much more dynamic presentation
of information.
Over
the past 10 years, the Strata360 team has worked
in Canada, Central America, Asia
and Africa to develop information,
education and training initiatives
for indigenous organizations,
government and NGOs. In all of
these initiatives, Strata360
draws on our well established
experience and expertise to design
and carry out projects that focus
on issues of environment, ecology,
land use and cultural heritage.
The
Strata360's research experience had its beginnings
in the mid 1960s with archaeological and indigenous
knowledge mapping. This focus continued in the early
1970s with the design and implementation of the first
large scale land use and occupancy mapping project
for the NWT. This work was in turn followed by work
on lands and environment issues for the James Bay and
Northern Quebec negotiations and implementation of
the regimes that resulted from the Agreement.
Looking
ahead
Strata360
has produced a variety of content-based multimedia
presentations on environment
and culture. In our projects
and partnerships the emphasis
of Strata360 is to provide expertise
and experience based on the required
modification of well-respected
methodologies for the collection,
analysis and application of information
and for the organization and
presentation of this information
for use in training and educational
programs. From the outset, however,
Strata360 has emphasized the
importance of moving beyond traditional
presentation products through
the development and application
of new media including CD-ROMs,
web sites and geographic information systems.
